singelman

Tok Pisin: singel + man.

There is a possibility for confusion here. Mihalic has skelman and senkelboi, both meaning an unmarried, unemployed young man who lives on the providence of others. He sought the etymologies skelman = skel + man and Schenken (German: ‘gift’) + man

Mühlhäusler (1979:201) finds Mihalic derivation of senkelboifrom German Schenken, ‘gift’, ‘extremely dubious’.

‘single’ + man.

® senkelboi, singelboi, skel, skelman.
