English: ‘Lutheran’.

The Lutherans came to Papua New Guinea from Germany in two orders: (i) from Neuendettelsau and settled at Simbang near Finshhafen and (ii) from Barmen (now Barmen-Wuppertal) to various stations around Madang. The Lutheran properties were confiscated by the Australian Adminstration after WWI and placed at the disposal of the Synod of Iowa. Today the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Papua New Guinea (ELCONG) is a wholly Papua New Guinean organisation.
