laulau

Source language unclear: any clues?

Eugenia is believed to be an exotic arriving in the New Guinea region in the early 1800s. It has no local name in many areas. Laulau but not aiai known in Manus?

Is there a finer distinction between aiai and laulau? Where do people know these words? Can we make up our minds if this is Eugenia or Syzygium malaccense S. aqueum ?
